Record speech, watch words appear in real time, and mark important moments with color-coded annotations — all processed on-device for complete privacy.
Getting Started
First Launch
When you open Sensory Scribe Mobile for the first time, the app will request two permissions:
Microphone Access — Required to capture audio for transcription.
Speech Recognition — Required to convert your speech into text.
Tap Allow for both prompts. Without these permissions, the app cannot function.
System Requirements
iOS 16.6 or later / iPadOS 16.6 or later
iPhone or iPad with a built-in microphone
No internet connection required (all processing is on-device)

Transcript Area
Upper text view (larger area) — Displays the full, finalized transcript as you speak.
Lower text view (smaller area) — Shows live, in-progress recognition. Words appear here first before being committed to the upper view.

Words will appear in the lower text view as they are recognized, then move to the upper text view once finalized.
Using Markers During Recording
While recording, tap any of the five marker buttons to insert a color-coded marker at the current point in the transcript. Use markers to:
Page Marker (Purple) — Mark section or topic changes.
Red Marker — Flag urgent or critical points.
Green Marker — Highlight positive items or action items.
Blue Marker — Note questions or items for follow-up.
Black Marker — General-purpose annotation.
Tip
Markers are saved with timestamps, so you can jump directly to marked moments during playback.
Stopping a Recording
Tap the Record button again (now blue) to stop recording.
You will be prompted to name your recording.
Enter a descriptive name and tap Save.
What Gets Saved
Each recording creates a folder containing:
.m4a Audio file — The full audio recording.
.txt Transcript file — The complete text transcript.
.wds Word data — Individual word timestamps for synchronized playback.
.mks Marker data — All markers with their types and positions.
Playback
Opening a Recording for Playback
Tap the Menu button (hamburger icon, top-left).
Select a recording from the list.
The playback screen opens automatically.
Playback Controls
The playback screen includes:
Play/Pause button (center of toolbar) — Start or pause playback.
Previous Marker / Next Marker buttons — Jump between markers in the recording.
Waveform display — Visual representation of the audio with a progress indicator. Markers appear as colored lines on the waveform.
Time label — Shows the current playback position.
Transcript view — Displays the full transcript with color-coded markers. Words are highlighted in sync with the audio as it plays.
Adding Markers During Playback
You can add new markers while reviewing a recording. Use the same marker buttons (Page, Red, Green, Blue, Black) to insert markers at the current playback position.
Deleting Markers
Use the Delete Marker button to remove a marker at the current position during playback.
Managing Recordings
Recordings Manager
Access the Recordings Manager by tapping the Menu button (top-left hamburger icon). From here you can:
View — Tap any recording to open it for playback.
Rename — Change the name of a saved recording.
Duplicate — Create a copy of a recording.
Share — Export a recording as a ZIP archive containing all associated files (audio, transcript, word data, and markers).
Delete — Remove a recording permanently.
Sharing Recordings
When you share a recording, Scribe Mobile packages all files into a single ZIP archive that can be sent via AirDrop, Mail, Messages, or any other sharing method available on your device.
Tips for Best Results
Speak clearly and at a moderate pace for the most accurate transcription.
Minimize background noise — While on-device recognition is capable, a quiet environment improves accuracy.
Use markers liberally — They cost nothing and make reviewing long recordings much easier.
Name recordings descriptively — Use names like “Team Meeting Jan 29” rather than “Recording 1” so you can find them later.
Review promptly — Listen back and add markers to recordings while the content is still fresh in your mind.
Privacy
On-Device Processing
Scribe Mobile processes all speech recognition entirely on your device. No audio or transcript data is sent to external servers. Your recordings remain private and are stored only on your device.
Troubleshooting
The Record button is disabled
Ensure you have granted both Microphone and Speech Recognition permissions. Go to Settings > Scribe Mobile and enable both.
Speech recognition may be temporarily unavailable. Wait a moment and try again.
Transcription seems inaccurate
Move to a quieter environment.
Speak more slowly and clearly.
Ensure the microphone is not obstructed (e.g., by a case or your hand).
A recording won't play back
Ensure the recording completed successfully (was not interrupted by a phone call or app switch).
Try closing and reopening the app.
The app asks for permissions again
This can happen after an iOS update. Simply tap Allow when prompted.
