Start Readable speaking selecting text with mouse.

You can also have any accessible text you select with your mouse to be spoken by Readable. This method can be turned off by removing the tick from the box by  "Speak on Select" option in Speech Settings (see below). To stop the speech, press the stop icon on the Readable toolbar, press the Ctrl button on your keyboard of left click your mouse.

Readable can also underline highlight the current word being spoken in most Microsoft text applications (Word, Wordpad, TextEdit, Edge and more). You can change the colour of the highlight from the Speech settings.

Keyboard Echo

Readable can also speak as you type words with your physical keyboard, and you can select for Readable so speak after each character or each word. This setting is turned off by default and can be seen in the Speech Settings screen below.

Remove Highlighting

If you prefer minimal or no highlighting to show, we suggest you select a light grey or white highlight colour.

1. Speak on Select - this speaks the text automatically when selected with the mouse.

2. CTRL + Move mouse pointer is the setting that speaks the text word or block under the mouse. When selected, CTRL key needs to be pressed when the mouse is over the text to be spoken. If not selected, any text under the mouse will be spoken, once the mouse stops moving.

3. Mouse Down Mutes Speech - when this option is selected, then the text to speech stops when the mouse (or trackpad)  left button is clicked.

4. Underline Colour - this changes the colour of the Readable underline highlight that appears under spoken text in Microsoft (and many other) applications. Click to select a colour.

5. CTRL+Shift Key combination will show symbols in the pop-up window, next to the mouse, in Microsoft Word. Homophones will also be shown in English language.

6. Key echo - this allows for Readable to speak when typing characters or word with the keyboard
